Château de Messey – Mâcon

After some great experiences in Burgundy, the Dumont family decided in 2017 to refocus its winemaking activity on Ozenay and Cruzille. The château’s estate, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019, now operates 10.5 hectares in these two appellations.

From a sustainable culture, the estate has gradually switched to integral ploughing and without weedkillers. In 2018, with the arrival of Frédéric Servais as a manager, he turned to organic farming with an Ecocert certification obtained in October 2021.

The Clos des Avoueries, in the Mâcon-Cruzille appellation, is a 5.5-hectare monopoly in an exceptional location as it is completely isolated in the middle of boxwood woods, dry stone walls and limestone lawns. A place very frequented by… the game that appreciates its calm and its unspoilt nature. It produces fresh, powerful and mineral wines. Very Burgundian!

The Mâcon-Chardonnay “Les Crêts” comes from a 5-hectare vineyard, also without direct neighbours. Facing due east, its terroir is composed of white limestone. When it was younger, it produced round, gourmet and rich wines.
Very Mâconnais!

Divided into 5 geological zones, the isolated location of the Clos du Chateau makes it possible to produce grapes that respect biodiversity. Harvested by hand, they are vinified in micro-plots as naturally as possible, with only a little SO2. Fermentation takes place at very low temperatures and therefore lasts several months. A unique process! The wines already testify to the great personality of each place! At the Clos des Avoueries, the cuvée ” Monopole “, ” Limestone “, ” Les Pierres rouges ” and the evocative “ Barramine ” are offered.

These efforts are bearing fruit and the professionals testify to it. The estate is referenced year after year in the Prestige Cellar of the BIVB (responsible for organizing tastings representing Burgundy throughout the world).
